Founded in 2012 by the visionary Finnish saxophonist and composer Esa Pietilä (winner of the prestigious 2016 Yrjö Award for Jazz Musician of the Year), Liberty Ship is a premier vanguard ensemble that navigates the deep, unpredictable waters of free jazz, contemporary art music, and avant-garde improvisation.
